Is Kalshi a sportsbook or a prediction market?

A prediction market. Kalshi is a CFTC-regulated prediction-market exchange, federally designated as a contract market rather than state-licensed.

Contracts on stated outcomes trade peer to peer between 1¢ and 99¢ and settle at $1.00 if the outcome occurs; the price you trade at is set by other participants, not by a house.

On fees: Kalshi charges a trading fee at the trade of 0.07 times contracts times price times one minus price, rounded up to the next cent, and nothing at settlement. The net payout on this site is ranked after it. Across the 13 platforms we cover, we compute the full cost of a bet the same way here.
