Accessibility

This site is a table of numbers that changes while you read it. That makes a handful of decisions load-bearing for accessibility rather than decorative, and they are listed below along with what is not done yet.

What the register enforces

Never colour alone

Every state a price cell can be in carries a word as well as a tint: current, aging, stale, unavailable, indicative. Movement is a fixed text sequence, not an arrow and not a colour. A reader who cannot distinguish the tints loses nothing.

A name that is not a logo

A venue's mark is decorative in the grid and carries an empty alt attribute; the venue's name is text, and it is what a screen reader announces. A logo is never the only accessible name and never the only interaction target.

Targets above the minimum

WCAG 2.2 sets 24 by 24 CSS pixels as the minimum target size. A grid of prices needs more than the minimum, so an interactive container in the board is at least 40 pixels, with the visual mark drawn at 20 to 24.

One frozen column, never a nested scroller

The event and selection column is sticky and the venue columns scroll horizontally beside it, with part of the next column always visible. There is no horizontal scroller nested inside a vertically scrolling list, which is the pattern that traps a pointer and a screen reader alike.

Nothing moves under the reader

Cell dimensions are reserved before a price arrives, updates change text in place, columns never reorder when prices change, and no banner is inserted above the board. A board that reflows while being read is unusable with any input device.

Motion is optional

Animation is reduced to nothing under prefers-reduced-motion, including the live indicator and the consent sheet.

Keyboard first

Every control is reachable and operable from the keyboard, focus is always visible, and a skip link opens each page. Disclosure controls state whether they are expanded.

Known gaps

No independent audit yet

The standard we build to is WCAG 2.2 level AA. No third-party audit has been commissioned, so this page describes the target and the decisions behind it, and does not claim a certified result.

Older pages predate the register

Several pages were built before the design register existed and have not yet been rebuilt to it. They are legible and operable, but their spacing, target sizes and state treatments are not yet the board's.

Report a barrier

Tell us what you were trying to do, the page, and the assistive technology and browser you were using: hello@oddsandmarkets.com. A barrier that stops someone reading a price is treated as a defect in the board, not as a feature request.
