What is an alternate line?
An alternate line is the same market — spread or total — offered at a number other than the main line. Move the line in your side's favor and the price gets more expensive; move it against your side and the price improves.
Venues publish a ladder of alternates around the main number, and the same alternate can be priced differently at different venues.
Worked example
On the same game, −2.5 might be priced at -145 (a $100.00 stake returns $168.97) while −3.5 is -110 (returning $190.91). One point of line is worth $21.94 of payout on this ladder — that trade-off is the whole market.

How a prediction market handles it
Alternate ladders are quoted by sportsbooks. Prediction markets in our coverage don't list per-game margin ladders, so alternates compare across sportsbook-style venues only.
